Message in a bottle March 2010

Moin, moin!

When does the spring start properly? Outside not so soon, but inside in the Birke all the more. In the Birke Day Spa we have a wonderful "refreshment program". Even for men in their prime, says Mrs Heilmann from our beauty area to me. So, so. She talks about the treatment "Payot Homme" (EUR 88.00): 85 minutes to unwind during a body peeling with finely grounded volcanic rock, whole body package with haematite balm, a combination of food, facial and head massage. Afterwards men are almost as new. Maybe I should pop in...

But first you shall get know how else we get the spring in the Birke. Our head chef Pierre Binder knows what the March has to offer. The goatlings are there! That's why goat cream cheese is on the menu of the Fischers Fritz. We get it from the Ziegenhof Rehder from Boksee. Beside hay, haylage and fresh grass the goats here get pure barley. Thereby results flavourful pure milk and the different cheese specialities, for which the company has been awarded several times. And which simply taste delicious, as you can convince yourself in the Fischers Fritz.

Delicious is a good keyword for our further culinary highlights in March:

4 March, from 6:00 pm: Fischers Fritz fish market.
Fresh seafood specialities on ice and at your choice. Fish from our varied offer from the Baltic and North Sea, our lakes and the North Atlantic which we prepare according to your wishes and serve with regional and seasonal vegetables and potatoes. As a starter you get cold Northern German seafood specialities and as a dessert a mixed choice from our big buffet. (EUR 34.50 per person incl. appetiser, fish dish at your choice and dessert buffet). Reservation under tel 0049 (0)431-5331-435.

27 March, from 7:00 pm: Wine & Dine No 24 with the winegrower couple Graf and Gräfin von Schönburg-Glauchau, owner of Schloss Westerhaus in Ingelheim.
Since 1900 this traditional house has been in the possession of the family of Opel and is famous for its Riesling and Spätburgunder. The "flagship" is the "Grand Prix" which matures in a French barrique barrel for 18 months after the harvest before it gets filled in the elegant bottles. This and 5 further choosen, special and delicious wines of this classified vineyard will be presented the guests of Birke’s Wine & Dine. Gabriele Schnura from the Kieler Weinkontor completes this selection with six comparable foreign wines. In addition, the team of the Fischers Fritz serves a noble 6-course menu, prepared of fresh seasonal and regional products. You can order your tickets at a price of EUR 79.00 per person under 0049 (0)431-5331-444. The price includes aperitif, 6-course menu, 12 wines and mineral water.

28 March, 2:00 pm: Slow Food cookery course "Mushrooms from the farm Salzau"
Grower of mushrooms Fabian Kummer from Salzau will show a choice of his fine, delicious mushrooms and prepare a special menu with the participants. In addition to the organic mushrooms you'll get fresh chicken and Angler Sattelschwein. There are only a few places left. Bookings under 0049 (0)431-5331-435.

That's how the spring tastes in the Birke. Try it. As you already know, we are looking forward to welcome you here.
