The new year starts and we already have thrown the first resolutions in the Kiel Fjord, or? Best is we stick to the great saying which crosses my mind while doing a winter walk through our nearby game reserve: “Don’t start with the big resolution but with a little act.”
And don’t forget: Even small acts can have big effects. Our first Slow Food cookery course 2010 on the 31 January for example. Small acts in the kitchen make a fantastic menu which the participants themselves created under directions. You only have to know how to do it. Our motto this time is: game from Gut Bossee and mushrooms from Salzau. You’ll get to know all the facts about these kinds of food and their sustainable and ecologically fair method of production from the respective producers Detlef von Bülow and Fabian Kummer. Afterwards the menu will be made together with our team in the kitchen. We reveal the tricks of the professionals and set the table with you before you can sit down. Our restaurant Fischers Fritz is famous for its delicious fish dishes. But now we again have something very special: skrei! This Norwegian cod is only available for a short time. Then, when from January till March millions of winter cods set out in gigantic shoals from the northern Barents Sea for their spawning grounds along the winterly coast of Norway up to the Lofoten. There the catch of skrei is a real highlight. In the culinary way the skrei is delicious and nutritious. Traditionally the fish meat, roe and liver are cooked in separate pots and they are eaten together with boiled potatoes. We’ll see what head chef Pierre Binder and his team comes up with when the rare fish have found their way in the Fischers Fritz. You can reserve your table under: 0049 (0)431-5331-435.
Brrr. It got very cold. I will warm up shortly in the Birke Day Spa, go in the sauna, swim a round and drink a vitalising tea at the chimney. Sounds good and better than: Now off on the sea. Fishermen. Respect to them for doing such a hard job at these freezing temperatures which demand everything from the men on sea. We enjoy their catch in the warmth. Especially on 4 February, from 6.00 p.m.: at our popular Fischers Fritz fish market. On the buffet in the restaurant we have fresh sea food specialities “on the rocks”. Everyone choose his/her own fish and we prepare it according to the individual wishes. In addition we serve regional and seasonal vegetables and potatoes from our great suppliers of the area.
These are just some of our small acts in January. But best is you visit us and discover for yourself what a big effect it all has: more quality of life for you.
