Message in a bottle October 2009
Moin, moin!
I’m back from my holiday and immediately come across some great news: The "Birke" got a "very good" from the well-known online travel portal Reisen.de! This seal of quality is a symbol for reviews which serves the classification from hotels after certain criteria. Only hotels which are reviewed by over 120,000 Reisen.de community members as very good, get such a precious seal of quality. Altogether there are already 10,000 reviews on which Reisen.de can come back to. A big thank you goes to all our hard-working employees!
I still have many new impressions from France in tow. Travelling educates – it is said in the vernacular. That’s right. I imagine it is, however, most beautiful in Schleswig-Holstein. Now, with the autumn holidays around the corner, one can experience it really well. You camp best in the Birke. From here you can visit manor houses and castles, museums and galleries, you can take walks and go cycling at the Kiel Canal, you can relax your mind at the beaches at the Baltic Sea... Would you like more ideas? Our team has lots of them and also great tips for golfers. Ten 18-hole courses are in the neighbourhood. Golfer, what would you like more? A 28-degree warm pool and an exquisite sauna area, relaxing massages after doing some sport, body peelings with the strength of the sea maybe? Mrs Heilmann from our Birke Day Spa has wonderful programmes up her sleeve: 0049 (0)431-5331-470.
For me the October starts with the organisation of the Feinheimisch Autumn Market at the Alter Markt in Kiel. After the Summer Market at Gut Bossee has been a real success, we Feinheimisch people Jochen Strehle, Detlef von Bülow and me have been talked into organising it once more. Several producers and gastronomes from Schleswig-Holstein will present delicious, regional dishes in white pagoda marquees from 9 till 11 October.
And furthermore: Such a vacation provides new strength. I’m feeling fit for the final spurt this year and I’m looking forward to our next Slow Food cookery course on 1 November on the subject of "Mushrooms and more". The producer of mushrooms Fabian Kummer from Salzau will present a choice of his fine and delicious mushrooms and our head chef Pierre Binder will prepare a special menu together with the participants. In my opinion, such a cookery course is a wonderful event for Christmas parties for companies. At work creativity, skills and teamwork are requested. There’s no difference with the cooking. In a relaxing atmosphere one gets closer, gets to know the regional, seasonal feinheimisch products of our cuisine and puts together and cooks a delicious desired menu together with our head chef Pierre Binder and his team. Afterwards they say: Enjoy your meal! Reserve now under 0049 (0)431-5331-435. (EUR 89.00 per person, inclusive knowledge about ingredients, guidance by our professional kitchen staff, kitchenware, aperitif, 5-course menu, non-alcoholic drinks during the cooking, apron and recipes).
At a further view in our reservation book and the culinary calendar my heart is beating faster as I’m a oenophile. On 7 November we have our Wine & Dine No 23 in the Birke. This time winegrower Christoph Ruck from the vineyard Schloss Lehrensteinsfeld is coming. His Spaetburgunder is said to be the most elegant Spaetburgunder in Germany. Stuart Pigott describes this wines as "stars on the sky of wines in Wurttemberg"! Six of them he will present us, Gabriele Schnura from the wine store in Kiel completes this selection with six international ones. In addition you’ll be served a noble feinheimisch 6-course menu. You can order your tickets at a price of 79.00 EUR per person under 0049 (0)431-5331-444.
One some more good news reach me: About 20,000 trainers, mentors and hosts from Germany voted the best German conference hotels of 2009. In the category MEETING we reached the 9th place, in the category CONFERENCE the 16th place nationwide. Therewith, we belong again to the 3 best conference hotels of Northern Germany. We are really happy about it and feel confirmed in our work.
Very colourful the autumn in the Birke, or what do you think? Convince yourself. As you know: We are looking forward to welcome you!
Ahoi, ahoi
Your
Christian Birke
