I'm sitting in our restaurant Fischers Fritz having a tasty breakfast "Northern German style" and almost choke on the delicious muesli. The magazine FOCUS is lying in front of me with the cover story "The best holiday in Germany". In cooperation with Holidaycheck the 100 TOP voted hotels are published. I'm wondering, whether the Birke is one of them. I thumb through the magazine and find the site with the 35 most popular hotels in the Top 7 federal states. And really, there we are! Among the 5 most favourite hotels for holidays of Schleswig-Holstein. "The Restaurant is cream of the crop" they say. And: "A cosy atmosphere pervades the hotel. Special requests are immediately fulfilled." Well, that goes down like butter and is very pleasing just like the alga tea I'm just drinking.
However, to rest on the laurels with all the joy was never advisable. So, get to work which is fun in the Birke. What else they wrote in the FOCUS? The restaurant is cream of the crop? Correct, because we cook and treat food FEINHEIMISCH. As a founder member of the association of the same name we are present at many events. Just like in July during the "Cheese meets wine" event in Kiel. On the "Evening of enjoyment" the Fischers Fritz served a Bouillabaisse with cheese croutons. What else you can do with regional cheese and what you can learn about the production and methods interested hobby chefs get to know at our next Slow Food cookery course "Cheese and more". The producer of cheese Detlef Möllgaard will present many worth knowing facts about the fine cheese of the "Schleswig-Holsteinischen Käsestraße" on 6 September 2009. Afterwards a desired menu you with the particular products will be put together with our kitchen staff. Equipped with apron and the right kitchenware the participants prepare the menu. We in the Birke are already very busy with our autumn events. Outstanding event: Wine & Dine No 22. On 5 September 2009 Jens Priewe, one of the most successful journalists of books about wine of Germany will be our guest to deliver insight into the winegrowing in Burgundy. At first Jens Priewe was an economic and politic journalist before in 1993 he dedicated himself to journalism about wine. His books are bestseller, his columns and essays about the subject wine followed a lot, as a connoisseur and critic he is in great demand at seminars and congresses. The guests in the Birke he will present six extraordinary wines. Gabriele Schnura from the wine store in Kiel is the co-expert at the Wine & Dine events. She shows corresponding German wines. In addition a delicious feinheimisch 6-course menu is served by the team of the Fischers Fritz.
