Message in a bottle October til December 2011

Moin moin,

my best buddies from the USA have been visiting me and I showed them around Germany a little bit. Among others, the Oktoberfest and Bavarian cosiness. And now finally back again: Standing at the Baltic and feeling home. Breezing deeply. And absorbing energy for an eventful autumn and winter program in our Birke. My message in a bottle will inform you every quarter now. These are my tips from October through December.

My tip for fish fans: FISCHERS FRITZ FISH MARKET
Market dates: 13.10./ 10.11./ 8.12.2011 starting at 6 p.m.
Mighty fish is laying on our ice buffet, freshly caught from the cutter or delivered from regional suppliers. And you can also find fish from the Northern Atlantic Ocean. You simply choose “your” fish and your favourite preparation style. Either pan fried, grilled or gently cooked, everything will be prepared in the front kitchen of our Fischers Fritz restaurant. Added with regional and seasonal vegetables and potatoes. As starter we serve a variation of sea food and fish specialties and the varied dessert buffet offers a selection of homemade delicacies. My tip for bon-viveurs: WINE & DINE No. 30
5th November 2011 starting at 7 p.m. with Thomas Hensel
Thomas Hensel – a “high flyer” in the German wine scene, close friend to Markus Schneider, is a young wine grower and hobby pilot. He is responsible for the cellar of the family-run vineyard Hensel in Bad Dürkheim, Germany since 1990. He will present 12 kinds of wines to our guests and will offer useful information about wine growing and his vineyard. Our kitchen team will serve a fine 6-course menu with it. Tickets are available for 89.00 EUR/person under tel. +49 431 5331 444. The price includes aperitif, 6 course menu, 12 wines and water.

My tip for tradition-minds: St. Martin’s goose
11th November 2011 starting at 6 p.m.
Very delicious! Our traditional St. Martin’s goose. Whole geese from the farm in Bokelholm are grilled and carved at the table by kitchen chef Pierre Binder and his team. They are served classically with red cabbage and dumplings. For each ordered goose we will give part of the revenue to the foundation “Kinderherz Deutschland”. Reservations under +49 431 5331 435

My tip for Nikolaus-fans: Christmas-songs at sunset

I’m already looking forward to our Christmas singing with hotel guests, neighbours and everyone else in front of our hotel doors. With punch and Christmas pastries – and maybe some snow flakes? We warmly invite all Kiel inhabitants, neighbours and guests to support our singing!

My tip for celebrating-friends: Celebrate in our Birke
24th December 2011 – Christmas Eve
Our Fischers Fritz Restaurant opens at 6 p.m. A special evening with a special buffet. Christmas like with regional and seasonal specialties from “in front of and behind the dike”. Our house will be lovely decorated. Candle light glare, fir smells and we open-hearted expect you. Reservations: +49 431 5331 435

25th and 26th December 2011 – Christmas Holidays
In our Fischers Fritz Restaurant and in our traditional house Waldesruh, we serve festive 3- and 4-course menus.

31st December 2011 – New Years Eve
The BIRKE-NEW-YEARS-EVE-GALA! In our festively decorated locations in our event center and in our traditional Birke-Waldesruh artists from Kiel’s opera house and from the world of opera and theatre under the guidance of conductor Michael Nündel present a musical potpourri of opera, chanson and musical. In addition an exclusive 5-course specialty menu, a midnight snack with a glass of champagne are served topped with colorful fireworks for 128.00 EUR/person. I just returned from a 4-weeks-long vacation, full of energy for an eventful autumn and winter program in our Birke. So you better read on right away!

I just found a pleasant message on my desk: Our Fischers Fritz restaurant is one of the best adresses at the Baltic Sea! You have already known it, but now we got it in cold print from the FEINSCHMECKER. Their current magazine presents 400 chosen hotels and restaurants along the whole Baltic Sea coast and we are part of them. Our kitchen team with chef Pierre Binder convinced the FEINSCHMECKER jury with our home created fish soup and a variation of different fillets of fish and shrimps. In addition our ambitious use of regional products just as the obliging and friendly service were praised.
